A Sunday morning visit to the Bale Grist Mill between St. Helena and Calistoga, in the upper Napa Valley of California. The only functional water powered grist mill in the state, the mill was originall built in 1846. It is now a state park, and has been mostly restored to functionality. It's open to the public and the millers will show you how things were done in the 19th century when then mill was where the whole valley ground its grain into flour and meal. You can still buy sacks of it in the gift shop.
