I've recently started taking several-times-a-week short hikes up a steep trail in the Berkeley Hills, behind my house. For the last 3 weeks I've been blessed with watching a family of Great Horned Owls raise a family of 3 (I think) owlets. I'm certainly not the only blessed one - this mama owl has been drawing crowds daily and is gawked at for hours on end. I'm sure with a little googling you'll find lots more photos of her, the kids, and dad on the web.
This is the oldest and largest of the three little ones. One other is sleepling behind mom, and the third was, at this point, still in the shell, or very small and hidden.
I pushed my camera to the max digital plus optical zoom to get these remaining shots, and the poor quality is obvious. But they're still cool pictures!
