I always think of these birds being Egyptian, so I was surprised when I saw lots of them in the parks in Sydney, and various places around Melbourne. They are pretty obnoxious actually - one stole Finn's sandwich right out of his hand when we were at the Healesville Sanctuary - a sort of zoo outside of Melbourne.
While we were in the wallaby area, this 4+ foot-long copperhead came out from behind the bench that Andrea & Larkin were sitting on, passing about 6" from Andrea's foot! We got the kids out of the way, and the snake handlers were called from the reptile house. They caught it and took it far away to a safer place.
Well, not really Nigel. Nigel is the Brown Pelican who befriends Nemo in the Pixar movie. But brown pelicans don't live in australia. This australian pelican is much bigger than the brown pelicans I've seen before.
